What do a Kennebunkport Inn and the Super Bowl XLI Have in Common?

And the answer is...they each make someone happy.

Hey guys, do you want to really enjoy this year's Super Bowl? I know, you can't really enjoy the Super Bowl because the Patriots aren't in it. Let me start over.

Hey guys, do you want to enjoy this year's Super Bowl as much as possible considering the best team has already been eliminated?

Well, your sweetheart may be a little less enthusiastic about spending several hours in front of the tube (I mean the liquid crystals or whatever TV's are made of these days). I have the answer...take your best girl to Kennebunkport for the weekend.

Come to The Maine Stay Inn for the weekend, reserve one of our romantic Cottage Suites (double whirlpool tubs and fireplaces), and have breakfast delivered to you each morning. In addition to that, you can attend Saturday afternoon's Chocolate Tasting (who doesn't love chocolate?), and you will have a bottle of Sparkling Cider and two Maine Stay Inn Signature Champagne flutes waiting for you upon arrival. Best of all, a surprise romantic gift for your girl.

When you check out on Sunday, you will have plenty of time to get home in time for The Game.

After such a wonderfully thoughtful and romantic weekend that you planned, just relax and enjoy that game you were looking forward to.

Chocolate Tasting at The Maine Stay, Kennebunkport

~ The Cocoa Tree ~ Theobroma Cocao ~

The ancient Mayans and Aztecs praised it as the "food of the gods."

This Saturday afternoon, February 3rd, join your innkeepers and other guests around the fireplace at The Maine Stay for our 2nd annual chocolate tasting.

This year we have a special treat, an award winning sampling from the island of Grenada.

According to the Grenada Chocolate Company, "Grenada has clearly one of the strongest, richest cocoas in the world partially due to the super-rich volcanic soil here and the hot sun. Single origin cocoa bean chocolate is rare, especially when it is one of the best cocoas in the world! Along with careful, small-batch processing, Grenada's cocoa provides our chocolate with a powerful, delicious and intriguing flavor."

Escape for a Romantic Weekend Getaway to The Maine Stay Inn. We have Romantic Cottage Suites with fireplaces and double whirlpool tubs available. In addition to the chocolate tasting and your romantic suite, your weekend getaway will include a bottle of Sparkling Cider along with two Maine Stay Inn Signature Champagne flutes, a special romantic gift for your sweetheart and, of course, a scrumptious New England breakfast each morning.

Oh yeah, one other thing, there is plenty of time to enjoy the weekend, checkout Sunday morning after a great breakfast, and still make it home for the Super Bowl.

At The Maine Stay Inn, "we have the nicest guests."

Kennebunkport Winter Activities

It's cold and snowy in Kennebunkport. How cold is it? It's so cold I saw a chicken with a capon. (thanks Johnny)

Are you looking for some great winter weekend activities? Next Saturday, February 3, at The Wells National Estuarine Reserve is Winter Family Fun Day.

Beginning at 11:00 am there will be a variety of activities celebrating the nature of winter. There will be games, crafts, animal tracking and, with enough snow, participants can take part in snow sculpturing, sledding, cross-country skiing and you can even try out some snowshoes.

For those interested in renting skis or snowshoes, be sure to contact the Wells Recreation Department ahead of time.

Admission is a donation of $5.00 per person and if you bring your own mug, hot drinks are free.

After this day of outdoor fun, return to your cozy room at The Maine Stay Inn and sit in front of your fireplace. Warm up a little while your whirlpool tub is filling. Insert your own story here.

Sounds nice doesn't it?

Alisson's Restaurant ~ A Kennebunkport Restaurant Review

A main stay in Kennebunkport (hey, wait a minute) for more than 30 years, Alisson's is clearly doing something right. Actually, they are doing lots of things very well.

Located right in the center of the action of Kennebunkport's quaint village of Dock Square, Alisson's is well known and frequented by locals and visitors alike.

This evening's meal included the typical Alisson's experience. Janice and I were joined for dinner by Marc and Sue. Our greeting from the hostess was friendly and we were escorted to our table, well away from the entrance (very much appreciated as the outside temperature was about 18 degrees). We were well within view of several of Alisson's seven big-screen TVs (there may have been more that we didn't see) which was perfect since the Patriot's game was about to come on. Go Pats!

It was burgers for both Janice and me. Cheeseburger for Janice and Dee Dee Burger for me. The Dee Dee Burger is topped with bleu cheese dressing, sauteed mushrooms and onions. Sue opted for the Lobster Roll (better known as the Lobsta Roll). As Alisson's advertises, it had "mounds of fresh Lobster meat." Alisson's is well known for their great Lobster Rolls. For Marc, it was "A Fish Called Wanda," a broiled haddock (you could have it fried as well) sandwich with Cheddar Cheese.

All sandwiches come with your choice of french fries or cole slaw. That's no choice for me...it's fries all the way. The fries, like my burger are done just right.

And then my favorite part, dessert, a Peanut Butter Cup Pie. Our waitress was excellent but hey, who told her to bring out two forks? It was so good, I didn't even see what Sue and Marc got for dessert.

Alisson's Restaurant is casual and they don't take reservations. Don't be fooled, they take your food very seriously. Over the years, Janice and I have had many meals at Alisson's and we always leave pleased with our selections. We have sent a countless number of Maine Stay Inn guests to Alisson's and the feedback is always excellent.

I guess that's how a restaurant continues to thrive for more than 30 years.

Where's Maine Stay Inn Teddy? ~ Win a Tee Shirt

Kennebunkport's most famous Teddy Bear hasn't made an appearance in several weeks but, he's back. He still has his winter sweater on, as temperatures in Maine (that's a small clue) have finally begun to feel like winter.

Again, this location should be an easy one for the faithful Maine explorer. Be specific, it shouldn't be difficult. So, send in your guess early and, if you like, guess as often as you care to.

Don't forget to read the rules and, if you have won in the previous 90 days, please give someone else a chance.

When you make a guess, I may not post it right away. We are on vacation and only occasionally have internet access (unlike The Maine Stay Inn where we always have wireless access for our guests). We'll be back this weekend and have some great specials on our most romantic rooms.

At The Maine Stay Inn, "we have the nicest guests."

Kennebunkport's Maine Stay Inn to Hold a Chocolate Tasting Event

A fun and entertaining Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast special, the 2nd annual Chocolate Tasting will be held on Saturday afternoon, February 3rd, around the fire at The Maine Stay Inn.

Sampling chocolates from around the world, guests of the Maine Stay will taste and vote for their favorites.

A popular occasion last year, our guests voted one of the Swiss chocolates as their favorite. This year we will try to give the Swiss some stiff competition by acquiring (we are still attempting to secure this special chocolate) a very special, hand crafted, chocolate from the island of Grenada.

There will be several varieties of delectable, mouth-watering selections.

Escape for a Romantic Weekend Getaway to The Maine Stay Inn. We have Romantic Cottage Suites with fireplaces and double whirlpool tubs available. In addition to your romantic suite, your weekend getaway will include a bottle of Sparkling Cider along with two Maine Stay Inn Signature Champagne flutes, a special romantic gift for your sweetheart and, of course, a scrumptious New England breakfast each morning.

"On August 9, 1974, he stepped into the presidency without ever having sought the office. He assumed power in a period of great division and turmoil. For a nation that needed healing and for an office that needed a calm and steady hand, Gerald Ford came along when we needed him most."
