Kennebunkport Inns Raise $1,000 for Maine Children's Cancer Fund

Collectively, The Historic Inns of Kennebunkport have raised and contributed $1,000 to the Maine Children's Cancer Fund.

This worthy cause is a great fit for the Kennebunkport Maine Stay Inn. As one of few inns that welcome children, the Maine Stay has been a destination for family vacations dating back 60 years. In 1946, the doors of the Maine Stay were opened by John and Grace Eldridge. The property was welcomed into The Select Registry of Inns in 1996.

Kennebunkport, Maine...squish, squish

The good news is...Mother Nature is getting all the rain out of its system. As a result, we should be in for a wonderful summer.

Two weeks ago we were wondering if the lawns were going to turn green because of a lack of snowfall and rainfall so far this year. We were way behind and it appeared that we were in for at least a minor drought.

Well stand back, or at least stand under something. It seems like it has been raining forever. In Kennebunkport we have gotten about 12 inches of rain in the last couple of days alone. South of us, in York, they got even more.

The bad news is...well there is no bad news. Summer officially starts on Memorial Day weekend and that's just around the corner. This rain is due to stop sometime before then.

Kennebunkport is in for another beautiful summer. What a great place for a vacation.

Mothers' Day at the Kennebunkport Maine Stay Inn

In celebration of Mothers' Day, weekend guests at the Kennebunkport Maine Stay Inn will receive a Maine Stay Inn cookbook as our special gift.

At the suggestion of many of our guests, Janice recently decided to compile a collection of her most popular breakfast and teatime recipes. The cookbook has been selling off the shelves, as a matter of fact, she had to set aside enough for our Mothers' Day giveaway.

She will be sending for a second printing next week.

This is one of our popular breakfast recipes:

Almond Crusted French Toast (pictured above)

Ingredients:
2 cups sliced almonds
2 cups corn flakes cereal, crushed
1 1/2 cups coconut
6 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 loaf twelve grain bread
Pure maple syrup (Maine maple syrup is best)

Directions:
1. Crush cornflakes.
2. Place almonds, cereal and coconut in large flat container and mix together.
3. Beat eggs with milk in medium bowl.
4. Dip bread slices into the egg and milk mixture, then coat both sides with the crunchy mixture.
5. Place on lightly greased, preheated griddle and cook at 400 degrees several minutes on each side until crisp and golden brown.
6. Just before serving, cut each piece diagonally.
7. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with warm Maine maple syrup.

It's an easy, fancy looking and easy recipe.

If anyone is interested, the recipe books are $7.50, plus tax and postage. Call us at (800) 950-2117 or better still, come stay with us and pick one up..

We hope to see you at the inn.

Our First Guests Return to the Maine Stay

It was a little over 4 years ago now, Janice and I returned from our lawyers office having just signed the paperwork for what was, and still is, the largest purchase of our lifetimes. When we walked into the building that was to become our new lifestyle, our very first guests were checking in.

Kathy and Terry Kovacs had come to the Kennebunkport Maine Stay Inn for a little getaway. Boy are we lucky to have had such nice people as our first guests. Later that evening they brought us a bottle of Champagne to celebrate our new life. In hindsight, it was clearly an omen of things to come. Kathy and Terry were the first of so many wonderful people we have been fortunate to have met as the innkeepers of the Kennebunkport Maine Stay Inn.

That first year the Kovacs' visited and then again the next year, they spoke of Kathy's long time desire to open her own needlepoint shop. It was clearly something they had both spent time pondering.

The following year, Spring of 2004, we didn't hear from Kathy and Terry. Well, as we later learned, Kathy did fulfill that ambition. In 2004, she opened and continues to run her very succesful shop, THE WOODEN NEEDLE.

Specializing in Cross Stitch and Needlepoint, Kathy's shop is on Route 100 in Waterbury Center, Vermont. If you are in the area stop by and say hello. If you need supplies call her at (802) 241-4149 or send her an email at kkovacs@koventusa.com

It's true, here at the Maine Stay Inn, "we have the nicest guests."

Check back, we will have a picture posted soon.
